Costco Helper

Like many I enjoy a trip to Costco.  Its even more enjoyable when I don't have to go by myself.  On my latest trip I had three helpers, well really only two, but the other was too adorable to leave at home with Pops.

Holly is a tremendous help.  She remembers me of all the things I forgot to add to the list or the things we've talked about wanting in the future.  Holly is also my cart pusher while I try to steer the orange flatbed metal cart.  I hate those things.  The cart is mostly for the boys.  It also protects the bread from getting smashed.

Recently Little Dude has mastered rolling.  He cover the family room floor in no time at all.  This means he likes being strapped into his car seat or bouncy seat even less than before.  Holly and I were hoping he would fall asleep on the drive and sleep through most of our shopping.  He did fall asleep, but didn't stay asleep.  We lucked out, he woke up happy and cooing.  Whew!  His big smiles and new noises made for an enjoyable  shopping trip.

Cutie E is a charmer.  His role is to keep us and the passing guests entertained by his cute smile, his hello or funny antics.  We love taking him shopping because he is so much fun.  On this trip he tried to play with Little Dude, but he was more interested in sleeping.  So, he changed his plan, he wanted OUT of the cart.

Now that he is a pro at walking he wants to walk everywhere.  He is getting better at holding our hand or finger, but not always.  This particular shopping day was a busy one for Costco, it was a must that he hold onto Grammy's hand.  He wasn't a fan, he wanted to be independent.

The best part of those awful flatbed carts is the low bar.  Its there to keep your items from falling off, but it makes a better handle for little ones.  Cutie E helped Grammy push the cart through Costco.  Once he discovered that he could help by pushing he didn't wander off.  He kept pushing, even when I stopped to get an item.

I am a firm believer in involving your children in your daily tasks or chores.  I enjoy the time spent together.  It is an opportunity to teach and for children to mimic what they see you do.  If Cutie E hears the vacuum he comes running so he can help me.  He loves it and I love the joy on his face.  When baking Cutie has his own utensils, but he always wants mine.  I will remember these precious moments for the both of us.

One of my new favorite memories is pushing that orange cart through Costco with my little helper.  I hope I don't forget this memory.  Little hand, lots of jabber and full strength used to push the heavy cart forward.
